Saving and completing a review

Saving a review retains the review details and allows you to continue to work on the review now or at a later time. Completing a review saves and locks the review. You can later retrieve and view a completed review but you can't make any edits. If you are working with an automated review (generated by InterQual® AutoReview), you can complete the review to finish the review workflow.

Note: If your workflow includes selecting an outcome and, in a primary review, you select an outcome that requires a secondary review (for example, Referred for Secondary) you should save (rather than complete) the review. Completing the review locks it from further edits and prevents a secondary reviewer from recording a secondary outcome. Alternatively, saving the review locks the primary outcome and prevents selection of a different subset, but allows a secondary reviewer to make any necessary changes to the criteria selections and record a secondary outcome.

Save a review

You can save a review at any time from the Medical Review screen, Recommendations screen (Q&A criteria only), or Review Summary screen.

  • From the Medical Review screen, Recommendations screen, or the Review Summary screen, select SAVE REVIEW.
  • If selecting an outcome is part of your review workflow and you selected an outcome that refers the review for secondary review, a warning message alerts you that saving the review will prevent any change to the Primary Outcome selection. Additionally, you cannot change the subset, but you can make changes to the criteria selections.
  • If the warning message appears, click OK to save the review.

Note: As the review is saving, a message reminds you to not close the window while saving is in progress. If you attempt to close the window, a message alerts you that changes may not be saved and will prompt you to confirm before closing the window.

If two reviewers attempt to make and save selections on the same review at the same time, a warning message displays to prevent users from overwriting each other’s changes.

  • Optionally, continue working on the same review, create a new review or, alternately, select Menu and return to a previous screen and select an option from the navigation pane.

Complete a review

You can complete a review from the Medical Review screen (decision-tree criteria only) Recommendations screen (Q&A criteria only), or Review Summary screen.

Note: If while conducting a Q&A review, you select additional criteria but do not complete the review, the COMPLETE button remains disabled. You must finish answering the medical review questions to complete a review.

  • From the Medical Review screen, Recommendations screen, or the Review Summary screen, click COMPLETE.

A warning message indicates that the review will be locked and cannot be edited. Note the following:

  • Automated review—If you are completing an automated review that resulted in Criteria Met, a message appears telling you that any data (criteria selections and EHR data) that did not contribute to meeting criteria will be removed from the review. This includes clearing of irrelevant data from the level of care that was met and all other levels of care that have data. Criteria selections and EHR data are not removed from reviews with a PARTIAL or CRITERIA NOT MET status.
  • Review Outcome—If selecting an outcome is part of your workflow, you are alerted if you did not select an outcome. See Selecting an Outcome.
  • Review Share —If sharing the review is part of your workflow, see Sharing a Review.
  • Click COMPLETE REVIEW or CANCEL, as appropriate.

Note: As the review is completing, a message reminds you to not close the window while saving is in progress. If you attempt to close the window, a message warns you that changes may not be saved and will prompt you to confirm before closing the window.

If two reviewers attempt to make and save selections on the same review at the same time, a warning message displays to prevent users from overwriting each other’s changes.

The review is locked and marked completed with a date/time stamp. You can retrieve the review later and view its details; however, if you try to edit a completed review, a message warns you that you cannot edit the review.

After you complete a review, it is no longer returned in the search results for automated reviews.
